WILL EDGAR DEFY THE COUNTY ON THE DAYCARE ISSUE
If he does, so much for City-County relations while he is Mayor. Even Nelson could not save him then!
I hear also that there is plenty of lobbying going on to try and get the County to change their mind. Wouldn't that smack of a back-room deal and sell-out if County officials agreed to do so in secret and not at a County meeting.
WILL THE CASINO WARN EDGAR TO BACKOFF ON DAYCARE, TEMPORARILY AT LEAST
All's fair in love and CUPE relations isn't it
Why would the Casino care you might wonder. Here's why from CUPE's website.
Interesting juxtaposition of the CUPE convention and daycare with the Casino.
If I was a senior CUPE official, knowing of the close relationship between the Mayor and the Casino, I would have made a few phone calls by now.
The Casino would not want CUPE to pull the convention from Windsor would it! Waiting until a joint County/City meeting in April might just be the excuse needed to make it too late for CUPE to go elsewhere.
ANOTHER NICE MEETING AROUND DAYCARE DECISION TIME
Another Casino meeting that could be pulled.
MORE CUPE NON-REPORTING
Looks like the Star missed this story too especially since Councillor Lewenza was involved. I guess they were too busy reporting on what private daycare operators said.
- Parents Present Councillor Lewenza With Giant Heart
January 29, 2010
WINDSOR, Ont.—Local parents Scott Cipkar and Dave Taylor, who oppose the City of Windsor's proposal to shut down city child care centres, presented a giant heart, as well as their letters and petitions, to Councillor Ken Lewenza this morning at City Hall. Concerned parents are asking Windsor City Councillors to ‘Have a Heart' and to postpone any decision to close city centres until parents and other stakeholders are consulted. City Council will vote on the proposal on Monday, February 1 at 6 pm.
Today's event was a follow up to the public meeting held this past Tuesday, January 26 where parents and child care supporters packed Club Alouette to talk about the impact of the city's proposal to close city child care centres.
“Parents are bewildered by the City's haste in making this decision,” said Scott Cipkar, a parent at Amherstburg Child Care Centre. “The staff report that was released was missing all kinds of information including the impacts of these closures on parents and children.”
“Parents are calling and writing their Councillors because we want a real report from City staff that talks about the impacts, about alternatives to closure, and that includes a long term plan that meets the needs of families,” said Dave Taylor, a parent at Tecumseh Child Care Centre.
Yesterday, Essex County Council voted unanimously to recommend that the City of Windsor postpone closure of the city centres until stakeholders are consulted, and a joint meeting of City and County Council can be held. County Council also wants the opportunity to consult with the Provincial government about stabilization funding for child care."
NO JOBS, NO JOBS, NO JOBS
We could have had nearly full employment and a real economic future but for the stalling over the border over the past 7 years.
Give thanks to Edgar, Sandra, Dwight, Dalton and Stephen for their efforts to destroy the region. Only a decade or two of litigation to go.
Throwing into the streets City daycare workers does not help the situation. No wonder a team is necessary to deal with the after-effects!
NO-BRAINER LAWSUITS
Can't get much easier than this for Eagle Furniture's lawyer on the 400 Building Tender.
And for Chuck Mady's and EllisDon's lawyers too.
Effectively, the City has admitted liability publicly and all that remains is to calculate damages.
I wish life was that easy when I was doing litigation.
Of course, if the City had any brains, they would try right away to make peace with the various contractors in the obvious way rather than fight a lawsuit over a limitations defence and an argument of fraud. Is there liability insurance for that?
That would solve a whole bunch of other Legal problems too. If you know what I mean
HIDDEN AGENDA
Accurate but narrow.
Of course it was not hiddden to Committe members, only to Windsorites until the report was made public. The Committee knew exactly what it was doing... see the comment in the Furniture audit which I Blogged where the outside lawyer suggested as an option not releasing it!
CONGRESSMAN DINGELL CAN ACT NOW
Now that there is a Detroit/ Windsor Tunnel Report, I assume that the Congressman will demand that it be made public for the information and safety of Tunnel users.
Being a concerned citizen here is what I did

Further to my email dated November 4, 2009 which has been completely ignored, please provide to me a copy of the report as set out in the attached Tunnel Committee Minutes.
I would appreciate as well if Transport Canada could send me a copy once they receive it."
